Display Window

3.x / 5.2

Cars, animals, houses, recipes, jewelry. No matter what you present in the community or what you want your members to manage and display, Display Window is in many cases the appropriate tool.

Description

This comprehensive application for WoltLab Suite allows you and your members to manage and present objects. Up to 6 tabs are available for each object, of which 4 are largely freely configurable. One tab is reserved for a basic description, another tab for comments. In the other tabs, additional texts, contents of configurable option fields as well as images (only in one tab) can be displayed. For the images WSC's own file attachment function is used.

Objects are ordered by categories in a maximum of 4 levels, whereby an object is always assigned to exactly one category. This category is relevant for category actions in the ACP (deleting categories with objects). Optionally, objects can also be assigned to other categories for display and search.

You can choose between three WoltLab Suite-like types of representation of objects; these are tiles, list and pictures. There are also different options for displaying the images of an object, which essentially affect the size of the images.

Of course, the application is fully integrated into the WoltLab Suite and provides the usual features of WSC applications such as subscriptions, activity events and points, notifications, content approvals, likes, reporting, statistics, and so on. An optional map, in which objects' locations can be displayed, completes the range of functions.

The application includes some free optional packages that work with other extensions, such as JCoins, Tracker, Community Bot and Extended Search. In order to enable warnings, the likewise free package "Display Window - Infractions" must be installed. However, this requires the WoltLab package "Infractions", which comes with every WoltLab application.

Display Window has a visible copyright that can be hidden after purchasing a paid Branding-free package.

Configuration

The configuration in the ACP includes the definition of the option fields and categories, the definition of the tabs to be displayed and their contents as well as the definition of user group permissions.

Since Display Window is an application, it may be necessary to make adjustments to the server (rewrite / .htaccess or nginx equivalent) if link rewrite (SEO) is enabled. In addition, a valid browser API key for Google Maps must be stored in the ACP if the map function is to be used.

Notes on Data Protection

  • This extension saves the user name and user ID of the creator in the database when creating an entry in the frontend (table show1_entry). If the storage of IP addresses is activated via the system configuration, the IP address of the user is also saved when creating the entry. Deleting the entry will delete that data. When the user is deleted, the user name and, if configured, IP address remain in the database. Existing IP addresses can be deleted with the database query UPDATE show1_entry SET ipAddress = '';.
  • Comments, likes, warnings and messages created within the extension are managed via system functions. Typically, the user name and user ID are stored in the database when you create them. Content sharing is also done through system functions.
  • When the map feature is enabled, when creating an entry, viewing entries, and accessing the map, a connection to the Google Maps map service (Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheater Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA) is established. The location data and the IP address of the user are transferred. This information is typically stored on a Google server in the United States.
  • Uninstalling the extension will erase all stored data.
